Plant Native Plants ...
Habitat
What IS your bird feeder?
The Hummingbird above is enjoying nectar from a Pink Turtlehead (Chelone obliqua) growing in a raingarden. It is easy to create habitat by planting
native plants. The wildlife will come on its own!
Native plants are the best source of
food, shelter and breeding habitat for all wildlife. For some species, such as the
Monarch Butterfly, native plants can serve both as a food source for the larvae stage
as well as the adult butterfly.
Grow native plants... It's a natural!
Monarch Butterflies
Monarchs need milkweed for nectar and as a larvae food source. The larvae will only eat plants from the genus Asclepias - otherwise know as Milkweed. The pictures below show Monarch transformations and the less common Marsh Milkweed.
